Superman Returns (2006) – A Simple and Fun Review

Superman Returns is a 2006 superhero movie that brings back the famous hero, Superman, in a new adventure. Directed by Bryan Singer, this film is like a love letter to the older Superman movies, especially Superman: The Movie (1978) and Superman II (1980). It stars Brandon Routh as Superman (and his alter ego, Clark Kent), Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, and Kevin Spacey as the villain Lex Luthor.

The Story
The movie starts with Superman returning to Earth after being away for five years. He had left to search for his lost home planet, Krypton, but found nothing. When he comes back, he realizes that the world has moved on without him. Lois Lane, the reporter who once loved him, is now engaged to another man and even has a little son. Meanwhile, his old enemy, Lex Luthor, is up to no good again.

Lex has found Superman’s hidden Fortress of Solitude and stolen powerful Kryptonian crystals. He plans to use them to create a new landmass that will destroy entire countries and make him rich. Superman must stop Lex’s evil plan while also dealing with his feelings for Lois and the fact that she has a new life without him.

What’s Good About the Movie?

Brandon Routh as Superman – He does a great job playing both Superman and Clark Kent. He looks and acts a lot like Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in the older movies. His Superman is strong, kind, and heroic, just like we remember.
Exciting Action Scenes – There are some really cool moments, like when Superman saves a falling airplane or lifts a whole island made of Kryptonite (the one thing that can hurt him). These scenes make you feel like you’re watching a real superhero in action.
Lex Luthor’s Villainy – Kevin Spacey plays Lex Luthor in a fun but scary way. He’s smart, mean, and loves power. His plan is dangerous, and you really want Superman to stop him.
Emotional Moments – The movie isn’t just about action. It also shows Superman’s sadness about Lois moving on and his struggle to fit back into the world.

What Could Be Better?

Too Slow at Times – Some parts of the movie feel a little slow, especially in the middle. It spends a lot of time on Superman’s feelings, which is nice, but kids might get a little bored waiting for the next action scene.
Lois Lane’s Character – Kate Bosworth is good, but she seems too young for the role. Also, her chemistry with Superman isn’t as strong as in the older movies.
The Ending – Without giving too much away, the ending is a bit sad and leaves some questions unanswered. Some people wanted a happier finish.

Is It Kid-Friendly?
