Jurassic Park III (2001) Movie Review
Jurassic Park III is the third movie in the famous Jurassic Park series, where dinosaurs come back to life thanks to science. This time, the adventure takes us back to Isla Sorna, the island full of dangerous dinosaurs. The movie is exciting, fast-paced, and full of scary moments, but it’s not as great as the first Jurassic Park movie. Still, it’s a fun ride for dinosaur lovers!
The Story
The movie starts with a boy named Eric, who goes parasailing near Isla Sorna with his parents. Something goes wrong, and they crash on the island. Meanwhile, Dr. Alan Grant (played by Sam Neill), the dinosaur expert from the first movie, is tricked by a rich couple, Paul and Amanda Kirby. They pretend to be tourists but actually want Dr. Grant to help them find their missing son—Eric.
Soon, their plane crashes on the island, and they must survive while being chased by hungry dinosaurs. The most dangerous one is the Spinosaurus, a huge meat-eating dinosaur that is even scarier than the T-Rex! There are also Velociraptors, which are smart and hunt in groups. The group must find Eric and escape the island before the dinosaurs get them.
What’s Good About the Movie?
- Dinosaurs Look Amazing!
The special effects are still great, even though the movie is over 20 years old. The dinosaurs move and roar like real animals, making them both beautiful and terrifying. The Spinosaurus is the star—it’s bigger and meaner than the T-Rex, and its fights are intense! - Fast and Exciting
Unlike the second movie (The Lost World), which was slow at times, Jurassic Park III moves quickly. There’s always something happening—dinosaurs chasing, people running, and close escapes. Kids will love the action! - Dr. Alan Grant Returns
Sam Neill is back as Dr. Grant, and he’s just as smart and brave as before. He knows a lot about dinosaurs and tries to keep everyone safe. It’s nice to see a familiar face from the first movie. - Funny Moments
There are some funny parts, like when a dinosaur makes a silly phone call (yes, really!) or when the characters argue in the middle of danger. These moments make the movie less scary for younger kids.
What’s Not So Good?
- The Story is Simple
The plot is very straightforward—people go to the island, get chased by dinosaurs, and try to escape. There aren’t many surprises, and some parts feel rushed. The first Jurassic Park had a deeper story about science and nature, but this one is mostly about running from dinosaurs. - Some Characters Are Annoying
Paul and Amanda Kirby (the parents) argue a lot, which can be frustrating. Also, some decisions they make don’t make sense, like wandering off alone when they know dinosaurs are nearby! - The Ending Feels Rushed
The movie builds up a lot of tension, but the ending happens too fast. Without spoiling it, let’s just say the rescue feels a little too easy after all the danger they faced.
Is It Scary?
Yes, but not too much for kids who like adventure. The Spinosaurus and Velociraptors are scary, but there’s no blood or extreme violence. Some scenes might be intense for very young children, but most kids who love dinosaurs will enjoy the excitement.
Final Thoughts
Jurassic Park III is a fun dinosaur adventure with great action and cool effects. It’s not as smart or emotional as the first movie, but it’s still entertaining. If you love dinosaurs and fast-paced stories, you’ll have a good time watching it. Just don’t expect it to be as amazing as Jurassic Park (1993).
Would I watch it again? Yes, especially for the Spinosaurus scenes! 🦖
